# Managed compute URL: /documentation/account/managed-compute Managed compute is included with Connected and Pro, which are not open for purchase yet. Until then, you can use your own provider key with Free Local. ## What it is [#what-it-is] With managed compute, the plugin's model-assisted features call a model through Strata19, so you do not need your own provider key. Calls use your plan's monthly allowance. The default models are chosen for low cost, with a fallback if the primary is unavailable; the list can change. ## How it works [#how-it-works] * Model calls made through Strata19 use the allowance. * Deterministic analysis, indexing and checks run locally and use none of it. * Calls made with your own provider key go to that provider and do not use the allowance. ## Boundaries [#boundaries] * The allowance is per billing period. It resets each period and does not roll over. * Managed compute is a feature of Connected and Pro. Free Local uses your own provider key. * Managed calls need you to be signed in, because the allowance belongs to your account. See [Sign in](/documentation/account/sign-in). ## What is sent [#what-is-sent] The text of the request the plugin builds from your project records. The same cautions as in [Sync and privacy](/documentation/account/sync-and-privacy) apply to anything you type into it. ## When the allowance is used up [#when-the-allowance-is-used-up] There are no top-ups at launch. Managed calls pause until the next billing period, and everything else keeps working.
